2016 recipient was Anthony “Tony” Reed, 10, who is currently undergoing treatment for Medulloblastoma, a brain cancer.  This type of tumor causes severe problems with balance, posture and even basic movements. Tony was originally diagnosed over a year ago and had been cancer free for almost four months.  During a routine MRI in February of this year new lesions were found on Tony’s brain and he had to go back into treatment.  Tony’s treatment is five days a week for at least the next year.  It is hard enough for a child to have to go through cancer once, but absolutely devastating to have a recurrence and have to tell that child he will need to go undergo treatment once again.  Tony’s mother has had to use up all of her vacation and sick time, so she has to take leave without pay, which makes it difficult when he is being treated five days a week for at least the next year.
