This year's recipient is Tristin Castro, a 16 year old, who is currently undergoing treatment for Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcome Stage 3, Group 3 cancer. Tristin first noticed symptoms in February of this year, but the doctors thought it was seasonal allergies. In March his eye started swelling and after a CAT-Scan it was revealed that Tristin had a tumor within his right nasal cavity which spread to his neck. Tristin was transferred to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital immediately. For the next 42 weeks Tristin will undergo chemotherapy and will also be undergoing six weeks of radiation treatments at the same time. The radiation treatments will be done in San Diego. Right now Tristin stays at the hospital for one night every three weeks for a 24 hour period receiving chemotherapy and then between those visits he receives two hour chemotherapy treatments three times a week. His family is constantly driving down to UCSF for all of his medical treatment. Tristin is a junior at Vanden High School and was on the Varsity baseball team. As we all know, when someone we love is going through this struggle our world stops. Tristin needs our support as he fights this hideous disease.
